Unearthed Mock Competition

Continuing our small tradition, we hosted a fake competition for our student to see how judging and robot matches work before their first real competition. Many of our students are new to FIRST Lego League or have not competed in many months, so we like to do a practice version of a competition for them to take away the nerves and just have some fun.

We started off the event by explaining how a normal competition is set up and how our event is close but slightly different. We had one judging room comprised of our amazing judges: Mr. Curtis from the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, Mentor Max, and Mentor Gray. The judging room followed the standard layout. However, if the presentations were more than 5 minutes, we let them continue, but noted it down for feedback so that we didn't discourage them during their first "official" presentation. We also had two robot competition tables set up for teams to complete five timed matches. The students were super excited for this since the team with the highest robot score would get their name on this year's mock competition trophy!

Our students did an amazing job working through all their matches and talking with our judges to receive feedback. Team 68496 Divas won their names on the trophy with a robot score of 160 points! We are super proud of all the work our students have done and can't wait to see how their first real event goes!
